Flavor of the Day: Quote

"Just a minute - just a minute. Now, hold on, Mr. Potter. You're right when you say my father was no businessman. I know that. Why he ever started this cheap, penny-ante Building and Loan, I'll never know. But neither you nor anyone else can say anything against his character, because his whole life was - why, in the twenty-five years since he and Uncle Billy started this thing, he never once thought of himself. Isn't that right, Uncle Billy? He didn't save enough money to send Harry to school, let alone me. But he did help a few people get out of your slums, Mr. Potter, and what's wrong with that? Why - here, you're all businessmen here. Doesn't it make them better citizens? Doesn't it make them better customers? You - you said - what'd you say a minute ago? They had to wait and save their money before they even ought to think of a decent home. Wait? Wait for what? Until their children grow up and leave them? Until they're so old and broken down that they... Do you know how long it takes a working man to save five thousand dollars? Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? Anyway, my father didn't think so. People were human beings to him. But to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well, in my book he died a much richer man than you'll ever be."

Inspiration from a true story

Eternity's fortress;
forever glorious masterpiece.
Your wings, how they flutter!
It is so light.
So light.
Lift my heavy heart
and kiss the breast of a new dawn.
Beautiful,
Ava Maria.

Most females turtles return faithfully to the same beach each time they are ready to nest. Not only do they appear on the same beach, they often emerge within a few hundred yards of where they last nested.

Inspiration from a blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Inspiration from a poem

"'Those who speak know nothing:
Those who know are silent.'
Those words, I am told,
Were spoken by Lao-tzu,
If we are to believe that Lao-tzu,
Was himself one who know,
How comes it that he wrote a book
Of five thousands words?"

Inspiration from a Poem

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Shel Silverstein

Inspiration from a true story

All she wanted was a bit of earth.
She cried out for the green mother who had already given her so much. She fought for those whispers in the wind, and when she got it, when she got her bit of earth, it was hers.
Neigh sayers thought it wouldn't do any good. They didn't think there was a point to tucking something into a pocket of space where other, more functional businesses could thrive. But it wasn't profit she sought.
It was years later, when someone very sick, needed a quiet place to rest. The park was built for them.
It's 100 years later, when the little tree in the middle of the surrounding path, would grow into its full oak potential, and become a new generation's backbone. The park was built for them.
It was the pride she felt on the day when the sun was warm and high, the air was soft and crisp, and her smile was in her heart.
The park was built for her.
